The REAL reason everything feels harder than it should.
Let’s get right to it. If you’ve ever thought:
“Why am I so inconsistent?”
“Why doesn’t anything stick?”
“Why do I feel like I’m either ON or OFF?”
“Why does change feel harder for me than everyone else?”
“Why does my body feel like it’s fighting me?”
…you’ve likely been dealing with capacity issues, living within the nervous system.
Here’s what no one ever taught me:
Your nervous system decides what you can hold versus your conscious mind, goals or routines.
If your body thinks you’re in danger — overwhelmed, inflamed, stressed, exhausted, overloaded — it will do everything to address the “threat” in this present moment.
Which means:
no long-term thinking
no follow-through
no consistency
no real progress
no “motivation”
no accurate hunger/fullness cues
no beauty energy
no metabolic flow
This isn’t mental or a lack of willpower — it’s genius biology, if you ask me. Why would it be optimizing for something that matters later when in the moment, there’s a big fcking problem :)
Once you understand capacity, you stop blaming yourself.
And you finally stop trying to “discipline” your way out of dysregulation.
Your body isn’t being difficult. It’s being protective.
I want to say something that might change the way you see everything: your body has never been working against you — it’s been trying to SAVE you.
When you really sit with the enormity of that, it gets emotional. We fight, shame, and spin stories about our bodies “not cooperating,” when in reality our system has been doing a PHENOMENAL job keeping us safe.
Because to your body, safe = unchanging.
Change is unfamiliar, and unfamiliar is automatically flagged as not safe.
So really, every time you:
procrastinated
binged wellness content
started something and dropped it
felt swollen, inflamed, or fatigued
“self-sabotaged”
got overwhelmed by structure
lost your spark
couldn’t picture the future
…it wasn’t failure. It was protection. Your capacity didn’t match the level of potential you were trying to access.
And once I understood that everything changed.
